Most people have heard of Christmas and Halloween, but have you heard of the celebrations after them? America has so many strange and random celebrated days that it makes them hard to count. There is probably a day for everything you can think of, like Grilled Cheese Day and Public Sleeping Day. Crazy right? Who knew all of these special days were right underneath our noses this whole time?

One crazy hidden red-letter day, is World Smile Day, celebrated on October 5th. This day was created by the inventor of the smiley face, named Harvey Ball in 1999. It was created to bring smiles to every person around the world and to make the smiley face a sign of kindness and joy. The best way to celebrate this red-letter day is to make everyone around you smile and be the kindest person you can be throughout the day. This celebration shows everyone that being kind and showing your smile makes the world a much better place.

Another crazy red-letter day is National Chocolate Chip Day. This day is celebrated on May 15th and was started by a woman named Ruth Wakefield, the inventor of the chocolate chip. The invention of the chocolate chip was an accident that Ruth discovered while making chocolate cookies for guests. After cutting up the chocolate chips and baking them into the cookies, she discovered that the chocolate squares did not not melt as much as she expected, causing her to gain the attention of Nestle’ further starting, the chocolate chip. The best way to celebrate this sweet-treat celebration is by adding chocolate chips to every meal. It may not be the healthiest of days, but it sure is the tastiest.

National Talk Like Yoda Day is one of the craziest so far! Almost everyone has heard of the famous “Star Wars” character that speaks using the language Yodish, making it very hard to understand much of what he is saying. You spend this whole day talking just like Yoda’s special language. People that do know about this random day, celebrate by talking similar to this wonderful character all day long!

Finally, the craziest red-letter day of them all is Squirrel Appreciation Day. This strange day is celebrated on January 15th and was created by a wildlife rehabilitator named Christy McKeown in 2001. She created it to get everyone to put out nuts and seeds for the wild squirrels living in the woods so they would not be hungry. Most people that have heard of this red-letter day celebrated by leaving out nutritious food for the squirrels and learning as much about them as they can. Squirrel Appreciation Day represents kindness to even those that we don’t know.

Out of all of the crazy red-letter days, which one was your favorite? Your favorite might not be one of these crazy days but there are plenty more to explore! You might not even have a favorite, because there are too many to choose from. Whatever you might think all of these special, random, and amazing days are something you might want to give a shot.
