Fear is an emotion triggered by the thought of danger. Most people in the world are afraid of something. Many have common fears like fear of sharks or the dark, but some have a very different fright. These humans may be frightened by paper, or even rain. It is unlikely to hear of these fears that haunt many. Nearly 19.2 million Americans are affected by different phobias, including these wacky terrors.

One very surprising fear is known as Ombrophobia, or fear of rain. People with this phobia can’t manage to be in rain or storms. It is mostly common in adolescents. If one has this phobia they may scream, cry, or even refuse to go outside in the rain. The majority of people are lucky enough to not have this fear!

Another very interesting terror is Phobophobia, or the fear of fear. Ones with this condition are constantly scared they will be in fear, they may feel like someone might jump out at them all of the time. Many times other phobias may cause people to develop Phobophobia. Humans with anxiety are more likely to obtain this horror. Weird, right?

Some fears are extremely inconvenient or unhealthy even. Aquaphobia, the fear of water can make those affected have extreme anxiety around water and may cause them to pass out. When ones have this terror they try to avoid being around or in water at all times. These people can’t swim or even be close to pools or bodies of water. Aquaphobia definitely interferes in victims’ daily lives.

Numerous people, especially children, are reluctant to get a haircut, but those with Tonsurephobia are extremely frightened by it. Tonsurephobia is often caused by previous traumatizing haircuts. Many people with this phobia shave all of their hair off just so they won’t need to have it frequently trimmed. Some with this fright are simply afraid of the razors and scissors used at a salon. Those with the condition have panic attacks by getting a haircut.

Most have not heard of this strange phobia, but it is a real condition. The fear of doors is known as Entamaphobia. Those who fear doors can not even look at them, much less walk through them without panicking! This horror is mostly derived from bad childhood experiences or injuries involving doors. Some phobics are also afraid of somebody intruding. One who is afraid may even become claustrophobic by being near doors.

All day long at school students are required to use paper, but imagine being scared of paper. Believe it or not some people fear paper, which is called Papyrophobia. Many phobics obtain this phobia by having a paper cut. The fear of paper is extremely rare and it is difficult for scientists to find the causes. People who are afraid of paper shake and shiver when they see paper. Think about how hard it is for them to go on with their daily lives.

Although these fears can get in the way of daily life, there are ways to get rid of terrors. A very common solution is exposure therapy, in which the person comes face to face with their fright over long periods of time. For example, those with Aquaphobia can be treated by gradually touching water and getting used to it. Another way is to imagine confronting your fear. This helps by showing its not as scary as they may have thought. People who never encounter their phobias they build up and become worse and over exaggerated, which is why trying it is so important. Overcoming a fear can be difficult and time consuming, but it is definitely worth it in the long run. Once people do it definitely makes things easier for them. What makes you scared?
