School Restrictions

Does your school have a lot of restrictions? Well, my school does, but for the right reasons. The first restriction is the dress code. It has gotten very strict, especially for girls. The second restriction is the well-monitored phone restriction. The final restriction is the use of vapes and the threat of violence. There are many examples of these situations at my school. I’m going to dive deeper into these issues within the school.
I feel like the dress code has always been a huge problem, especially recently with girls. Don’t get me wrong, some of the outfits people wear can be a little skimpy. Although some outfits can be questionable, some outfits that get dress-coded have a double standard for girls. Girls and guys can essentially be wearing the same outfits, but only girls get called out. For example, this happens all the time at my school where girls will get called out for “distracting the boys.” I don’t think that this is a bad rule, but I think it can be a little too vague. This is what I think about the dress code at my school.
There is always a huge phone problem at every school no matter the rules that have been put in place. Schools try so hard to try to get rid of phones and keep them in lockers or book bags. It sometimes feels like whatever they try they are never going to succeed. This is a huge problem when it comes to kids trying to cheat on quizzes. I have personal experience watching my peers cheat in class. I feel like this rule can be faulty, for example, if someone is to just put their phone in their pocket, it would not always be identifiable. This is my opinion on how the school handles the phone problem.
Now for the big topic of the use of vapes and students making threats. This begins to be a big problem starting in middle school and going into high school. Vapes in general cause a very unhealthy and unsafe environment for the other students. Threats also cause an unsafe environment for the other students. The student would most likely get suspended if they did either of these things. I have heard from many peers that they have caught other students in the bathroom with vapes. Both of these situations would end negatively. I say this because these will end up on your permanent record. Schools try their best to avoid all of these situations, which in turn is why they put a bunch of restrictions in place.
In all, I think that these rules are smart to keep all of my peers in line. The administrators could be more understanding of the things that don’t matter as much. I think they do the right things with most of their rules, but some schools can go over the top with the dress code. I don’t like the dishonesty that some students display when a teacher asks,” Are you on your phone?” Schools have done a good job figuring out how to stop these problems even though they don’t always work. This is how I feel about all of the restrictions at my school.
