Right now at Andrew Lewis, the 6th graders can’t play any sports. I think that it is a bad idea that they don’t get to play sports for our school.

Good Idea?

It can be a good idea that they don’t play, because if they did then it would take away from rec departments. This means that if most kids play for the school then they most likely won’t play rec because they will be too busy with the school sport If they did play, then there would be way more people on the team and that means that there would be less playing time for everybody. It would be hard to manage. Right now the 8th graders play more than the 7th graders in basketball, so if they add 6th graders then nobody would get to play. Then for football and even basketball the 6th graders could be too small and they could get hurt playing these sports. That’s why I think it is a good idea that the 6th graders don’t play.

Bad Idea?

It is a bad idea that they don’t play because it’s not fair. The 6th graders don’t get to play the sport they love for their school. Some of the 6th graders could be better than the 7th and 8th graders and they still don’t get to play. All the 7th and 8th graders know what it was like to be in 6th grade and not get to play any sports. Let’s say, during a game, our players might be tired and we need some kids to sub in or go in for a player so we could use the 6th graders. Right now the 6th graders can be managers which means that they could still practice but they just can’t go to meets or games. This could be a good thing, but at the same time, it’s still not fair that they practice but don’t get to play, it’s almost like they are practicing for no reason. Many other schools have 6th graders on their sports teams, so we might as well do it too. That is why I think it is a bad idea that the 6th graders don’t play.

There are many reasons why it is a good thing that the 6th graders don’t play sports, but there are many bad reasons too. and there are also many solutions. One solution is to just let them be on the team and barely get playing time or none at all but still practice because they still have 2 more years to play. That’s why the 8th graders play more because it is their last year playing for that team. They could also just let the 6th graders try out and the coaches would just have to cut more people. Another thing they could do is make a 6th grade team, but if there are a lot of them trying out that would cost more money because you would need money for uniforms and coaches. They would also need teams to play against unless they could just play the middle school teams. As you can see, there are many solutions to this idea. This idea had many pros and cons and many solutions. I think the 6th graders should be able to play for our Andrew Lewis sports teams.
