 Holiday Traditions

 

There are many holiday traditions. Like Christmas,valentines day,thanksgiving, hanukkah, Easter, st.patrick’s day and many more. There are many holidays and they all mean something. I’m going to tell you some of the meanings of these holidays.

 

  • Christmas (the best holiday). What is christmas? Christmas is a holiday celebrating the birth of jesus. It is where you spend time with family and friends and open presents. The people who celebrate Christmas have many traditions.

 

  • Hanukkah. What is hanukkah? Hanukkah is a jewish festival that begins on kislev 25.It is where you light the hanukkiah and you open a gift each night. Hanukkah is 8 nights and 8 days long.Like christmas if u celebrate hanukkah then you know that there are many traditions.

 

  • Thanksgiving.What is thanksgiving? Thanksgiving is where you spend time with your family and eat of course but it is also a day to be grateful for all the things that you have. It is where you celebrate the harvest and blessings of the past year.People do many things on thanksgiving. This holiday is always on the 4th Sunday of november.
  • Halloween What is halloween?Halloween evolved from the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain. Over the centuries, Halloween transitioned from a pagan ritual to a day of parties, costumes, jack-o-lanterns and trick-or-treating for kids and adults. It is where kids go out and go door to door and get candy and dress up in costumes to scare away the bad spirits. This holiday is celebrated on October 31st.

 

  • Veterans day. What is veterans day? a day to honor the more than 19 million men and women who have served in the U.S. military.Usually you would go to a memorial on this holiday and just thank all the veterans that served our country.This holiday is celebrated on November 11th. 

 

  • Easter. What is Easter? Easter, principal festival of the Christian church, which celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his Crucifixion. Easter is traditionally celebrated on the first Sunday after the full moon — officially called “Paschal Full Moon” — that lands on or just after the spring equinox. On Easter most people go easter egg hunting which is a fun tradition that little kids like to do.

 

  • St.patrick’s day.  Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick is a religious and cultural holiday held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick. Usually on St.Patrick’s day you go to parades and dress up in green. Why do we wear green on St Patrick’s day? The tradition is tied to folklore that says wearing green makes you invisible to leprechauns,So wear your green and find a 4 leaf clover.

 

  • Valentines day. What is valentines day? Valentine’s day is when lovers express their affection with greetings and gifts. This holiday always falls on February 14th. This holiday you can buy your loved ones chocolate,teddy bears,roses, and more. Valentine’s day is all about just being with your loved one(s).

 

  • Independence Day. What is Independence day? July 4 marks the anniversary of when Congress, comprised of delegates from the United States’ original 13 colonies, signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. This holiday is where we celebrate America. It’s kind of like America’s birthday. On this holiday people usually have cookout’s with our family and friends. Another thing people do on this holiday is wear red,white, and blue. As you know this day always falls on July 4th.

 

  • Memorial Day. What is memorial day? Memorial Day (originally known as Decoration Day) is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died in the military. So this day is where we honor people who have died in the military. People celebrate this holiday by visiting cemeteries and placing flags or flowers on the graves of our fallen heroes. By flying the U.S. Flag at half-staff until noon. Memorial Day is a day of “National Mourning.”
